I Have a Catholic Wife

I am married to a good Catholic girl.  Knew that going in as we were married in a Catholic Church by a priest.

No big issue.  Small cross hanging on the wall in our bedroom, got to expect that.

She heads to church most mornings for Mass which allows me to watch the recorded TV programs (Breaking Bad, Walking Dead) that otherwise she does not allow on the TV.

Sunday mornings I have the time to prepare a proper brunch when she comes back.  Lots of opportunity to experiment.

Friday night we normally have fish.  Now I like seafood so this gives a reason to plan a Friday meal.  Lots of variety.  Fortunately she does not ask for the salted cod meal that she grew up on.

Again no big deal.  She is worth it.

Occasionally I come up from the basement and she is on her knees with a necklace chanting away.  Ohhh kaay I think to myself, and go back down to my workshop.

But every now and then she announces that she is off to the church for confession. I always ask “what have you done wrong?”  She says “well I am not going to tell you!!!”

Now I have no problem knowing what I have done wrong or have sinned.  Pat is pretty clear on telling me.  But what is she not revealing?

Bruce The Benevolent

Some of you may be aware that I was making an application to be a Saint.  Bruce the Benevolent.

Now it was obviously an issue that I was not a Catholic, but being married to a near sainthood Catholic I thought it would get me through the early application process.

Already had the miracles in hand.  I used to be a very aggressive driver that never let anyone in but since I retired a miracle has happened and I let every one in and do not swear at other drivers (with a couple of acceptable exceptions)  Even when we were taking Meagan and Jorg to the airport on Jan 2, Pat said she should drive because I was too woosy a driver (Meagan heard it).

But I have recently heard about the Saint Francis Xavier relic tour which apparently is coming to Comox valley.  I now realize that if I ever make Sainthood they would chop my body up and put the parts on tour for the next 500 years.  I can just imagine some poor parishioners at a church in Spain seeing my right foot decaying away and realize that it had a Titanium part that looked like a golf tee in the big toe.  Big shock.

So I have recalled my application, but I will still try to live my life as a Saint although Pat already says that is not likely.

A Vacation Ruined

I am sure all of you have read or heard about the false missile attack message that went out to everyone in Hawaii on Saturday.  If you had a cell phone you got a message to seek a safe place as the Island was about to have a potential nuclear attack.  Hotels sent off alarms and there was panic everywhere.  The notice that it was a boo boo by someone pushing the wrong button in the emergency center on the island during a shift change took longer to go out.

Reports are that there was panic everywhere.  The Governor is demanding an investigation and some poor schmuck is going to be fired.

Now, of course, tourists are saying this ruined their vacation and I suspect law suits will be introduced to cover the cost of their vacation.

The wife and I would not have been affected if we had been there.  I do not keep my cell phone on so would not have received the alarm and I have lived through earthquakes in Japan with a shrug.  Life would have gone on and we might have noticed fewer people on the beach, but yeah I would have jumped all over that law suit to get a free vacation in Hawaii in the future.

A New Blog

Well it has been awhile since I last shared my wisdom with my blog family.  Too busy with my own family.

By the way I have been receiving emails that there are those out there in the greater world connecting to my blog and wanting more information.  This is a blog set up for me by my daughter so that I could prophesize  (or is that proselytize) to my immediate family and friends.  As she said at the time, “Dad it would be a shame for the greater family not to immediately share in your insights on the world.”  or I think that is what she said.

It is not intended to be a general public forum.  I will not be sharing details of our fabulous and luxurious lifestyle nor give information on the contents of the huge walk-in safe that we own.  Oops , to quote Hagrid, I probably should not have mentioned that. In other words, like the hedge in Tick…. nothing to see here.

Anyway the Holidays are over and we are getting back to normal life.  It is raining just like every winter day here.  We start back into our regular round of social clubs and activities.  I am missing the hike this week because my recurring bout of sciatica is still bothering me but it is getting better.  Honestly, while get old has its advantages,  (retirement, having afternoon naps, no boss aside from the wife to order you around, unlimited opportunity to express my views with not caring about repercussions) but it does come with some deterioration in the body.

It is a new year.  2018 still getting used to using that.  Pat spent hours updating all our calendars (including my personal Christmas gift calendar)  Looks like an exciting year ahead.
